By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13 v 34 – 35.
Hagley Free Church Vision Statement “To help our members become better disciples of Jesus” DearChurch, This morning in The Junction service the theme was “Flying in Formation”, so what was I going on about what has flying in formation got to do with the church you may ask. Jesus said in Matthew chapter 6 verse 26 “Look at the birds in the sky!” We were looking at Geese and in particular migrating skein and why they fly the way they do. Why do they fly in a V formation? Why do the geese at the back make so much noise? What happens when the goose at the head of the V gets tired? What happens if a goose becomes ill on the migration journey? The answers to these questions really show how we should live our lives as citizens in our Christian lives. They give instruction on team leadership, worship and how we should care pastorally for one another. It is therefore no coincidence that the Celtic Christians used the goose as one of the early symbols of their faith. Geese have much to teach us about our church and Christian life. On Tuesday evening as part of the joint Bible study/Prayer meeting we are starting a new series looking at “The Doctrine of Adoption”, this is of particular relevance in today’s society where through work commitments, family breakdown or teenage pregnancies many Fathers are absent. The series is about our heavenly Father and how through the life, teachings, death and resurrection of his Son we can be adopted into God’s heavenly family with the best Dad ever. So if you are curious what this is about I would encourage you to attend the first session on Tuesday evening as this gives the introduction to the theme and sets out the content of the series. We don’t do anything strange at these meetings it is almost like a normal church service with a period of worship to start, a short talk, a chance to ask questions and a time of prayer, which is open for anyone who feels they would like to pray to do so. I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening.
Yours in Christ Colin. LADIES FELLOWSHIP, TUESDAY 7 SEPT AT 2.30PM We will be holding a Harvest Praise and Gift Service. Gifts of tins and dried food items will gratefully be received and sent to the Black Country Food Bank in Stourbridge. This charity helps needy families in our area. A further meeting will take place on Thursday 16 August at 7.30 p.m. in the hall to which all members and friends are invited, although only members may vote. FAMILY DAY OUT AT BARNES CLOSE Following successful days in 2008 and 2009 another day is planned for Sunday 19 September to which all friends of all ages are invited. After morning service we will assemble in the hall and enjoy a coffee before leaving at about 12.15 pm; arriving at Barnes Close in time for lunch. There will be plenty of time for games and competitions before tea, cake and a cuppa, and a closing epilogue. Kindly note there will be no evening service.
